Things to Consider Before Booking
Budget
The 747 room, 62 suite JW Marriott Marco Island is an upscale hotel. Not only are room rates at the high end for a family resort, the Marriott charges a nightly resort fee for around $35 a night.
On top of this, the hotel charges for valet and self parking, WiFi, breakfast, additional rollaway beds, watersports and the kids’ club.
Use of the pools, the fitness center, with classes such as yoga, and 90 minutes of tennis court time a day, are included in the resort fee.
Of course, use of the spa and the golf course are an extra cost, as are any tours you book through the resort.
Packages
The JW Marriott Marco Island is a popular resort to host a wedding, offering several packages for a variety of tastes and budgets. Weddings can take place on the lawn, in the ballroom or of course, on the beach.
Couples looking for a romantic getaway can book the Romance Package, staying at Paradise by Sirene, the hotel’s adult’s only resort-within-a-resort.
Adults aged over 21 booking this package receive chocolate-covered strawberries on arrival, plus $100 of resort credit daily. A two-night minimum stay is required for this deal.
Alternatively, as this is a Marriott property, you could book the entire stay on Bonvoy points. You can save points by staying at other Marriott properties, or by using a credit card that offers Bonvoy points.
Family Interests
Although there are lots of fun activities available within the huge, 747-room, 62-suite property, families can rent a car and venture off-site for a fun day out.
The Everglades is a 90-minute drive from the hotel and is an incredible place to spot wildlife. The World Heritage Site is best explored by airboat, which can be arranged by the hotel.
Closer to the hotel is Naples Zoo and The Golisano Children’s Museum of Naples, both around a 30-minute drive north.
If the kids enjoy the hotel’s water slide, they will love Sun-N-Fun Lagoon, also located in Naples. This water park has five water slides, a lazy river and a toddler pool for little ones.
Southwest Florida Regional Airport is a 40-minute drive away.

If you don’t want a treatment, you can buy a spa pass for $45. Cheaper, no reservation required massages are available in the spa lobby.
Fitness center

The resort has a fitness center open all day, every day, with cardio machines and free weights. However, it can get crowded during busy times of the year.
If you are a serious gym goer, you may want to use the spa gym instead, which charges a fee and is a lot quieter.
Fitness classes are offered, including morning yoga on the beach.
Golf courses

There are two private championship golf courses near the resort, The Rookery and Hammock Bay. Both are managed by Marriott and have a clubhouse with a restaurant.
Adult-only area
Couples looking for a more romantic stay should check out Paradise by Sirene, the adult’s-only tower. The tower opened in 2017 following a $320 million renovation from parent company Mass Mutual.
The 94 rooms and suites have exclusive access to a rooftop pool and receive a complimentary breakfast from the fifth-floor restaurant.
Guests also get access to the “beach butler” who can bring drinks to your lounger.

Water slide

The kids’ pool has a fun water slide.
Private beach
The three-mile, private beach is one of the biggest reasons families visit this resort. White powder sand, calm turquoise water – it’s a great spot to hang out and enjoy the sunny Florida weather.
Beach huts and umbrellas are available for rent and can be booked in advance.
Pools

There are two heated pools open to all guests, the main pool and a kids’ pool with a water slide. Poolside cabanas with WiFi are available to rent for a fee.
For Mom and Dad
The Marriott Marco Island has a few fun options for parents, both active and relaxing. If you are looking for an upgraded pool or beachside experience, rent a cabana or beach hut for the day and enjoy the shade and privacy.
If the pool is too noisy and crowded, get a spa day pass or treatment and hang out in the outdoor spa pool instead. It is far quieter and relaxing, with no children allowed.
Looking for a more active break? Rent a kayak, sailboat, paddle board or wave runner at the beach, or head to the tennis court to practice your swing. And on the subject of swings, the two nearby golf courses are another relaxing way to spend your vacation.
For parents taking a break away from their kids, the Marriott offers Paradise by Sirene, an adults-only tower with its own pool and restaurant.
Dining Options
The hotel has a range of dining options, from casual bar snacks to white-tablecloth restaurants.
The JW Marriott Marco Island is not all-inclusive and there are no dining packages available, so everything must be paid for. The options are good, however, with plenty of choice. Quinn’s on the Beach is a family favorite, with casual fare and a fire dancer performance at sunset.

Room Information
Accommodation is either in the main hotel or the over-21 Sirene section. Not only do Sirene guests get their own pool and restaurant, they also receive a free breakfast.
For guests in the main hotel, the standard rooms come with either a king or two queen beds and a variety of different views. Suites and rooms accommodate a maximum of four: larger families can book connecting rooms.
The rooms all feature a mini refrigerator, safe, balcony and a coffee/tea maker.
Rooms
Guest rooms can be booked with either one king (rollaway beds and cribs can be added for a fee) or two queens.

The following views are available: Gulf Front (ocean view from two windows), Pool and Gulf View (one window ocean view), Partial Pool and Gulf View (partial ocean view), Tropical view (garden and ocean view) and Non-Water View (garden view).
Suites
The suites are larger and some feature separate sitting rooms, but still only host four people.

The Corner Sunset room has a king bed and two windows with a big, wraparound balcony facing the ocean. It has more space and a larger sitting area than the Gulf Front room but there is no separate living room.
For a separate living room and huge balcony with loungers, check out the Terrace Suite, or for the most luxurious room, the tropical-inspired Lanai suite.
Adults over the age of 21 can book one of the newer Sirene suites, which feature modern decor and include daily breakfast for two. Guests can book a two-queen or one king room.
Wheelchair Accessibility
The hotel has accessible routes throughout the resort and public areas such as the pools, restaurants, fitness center, spa and lobby are all accessible.
Some of the rooms have been designed to be wheelchair-friendly, including wider doorways and shower grab bars. You will need to request an accessible room on booking, as not all rooms are suitable.

Alternatives
JW Marriott Marco Island vs La Playa Naples
This oceanfront resort has recently renovated rooms, most of which have stunning ocean views. It is similar in price to the Marriott, although at least in-room WiFi is included in the resort fee.
The Balinese-inspired spa is a highlight, with flower-filled baths offered alongside the usual treatments. BALEEN, the main restaurant, is also popular among guests and locals alike (albeit pricey).

JW Marriott Marco Island vs. Hilton Marco Island
The Hilton, just a few steps away from the Marriott, is a smaller but equally upscale resort, located right on the beach. There is only one pool and fewer restaurants but the more compact property means less walking.

JW Marriott Marco Island vs Ritz Carlton Naples
Located on a private beach, the Ritz Carlton is a luxury resort with a grand lobby, sprawling manicured grounds and elegant suites. Guests can feel far away from it all while actually only being a few minutes away from shops and restaurants.
Family-friendly amenities include a kids’ club, interactive nature center and a video game room.

Conclusion
Marco Island is a lovely spot for families looking for a laid-back, tropical beach destination without leaving the US. The Marriott makes the most of the spectacular location with ocean views and balconies for almost every room.
The water slide in the main pool is a great feature for children, while parents can sip a rum cocktail in one of the poolside bars. Quinn’s on the Beach is a fun family restaurant for the evening, where you can sit back and enjoy the fire show.
As for drawbacks, many of the rooms could do with an update and are not as luxurious as you might expect for the price. The extra fees that seem to be charged for everything – including standard services, such as room WiFi – can get annoying.
